California Clubhouse Hires Executive Director
We’re thrilled to announce the hiring of our Executive Director! Erica Horn has accepted the position and will start April 23. Erica brings tremendous knowledge and energy to our program. For the past 10 years she has been at HERO House–a Clubhouse in Bellevue, WA which she launched and built, in collaboration with a strong board and community. Prior to that she was at Evergreen Clubhouse for five years, and has worked for 11 years on the Clubhouse International faculty, accrediting Clubhouse programs across the globe.
Erica is highly regarded throughout the Clubhouse International community, having achieved accreditation for Hero House in record time, and for achieving financial sustainability even as other Clubhouses struggled during the financial downturn. Erica grew up in the Bay Area and is enthusiastic about returning to her family and connections here. She is an exceptional leader and we are extremely fortunate to have her join the team.

SANVILLE CROSS-CULTURAL DOCTORAL PROGRAM
THE SANVILLE INSTITUTE
The Sanville Institute for Clinical Social Work and Psychotherapy (formerly California Institute for Clinical Social Work) has offered a PhD in clinical social work to master’s level clinicians in Northern and Southern California since 1974. The program is flexible and individualized to accommodate the needs of working professionals.
To augment its unique and successful self-paced doctoral program, the Institute is pleased to introduce a pilot project based on the cohort educational model.
Cross-Cultural Cohort PhD Program
Scheduled to start in September 2013 In Southern California
The cohort is a small group educational format where students and faculty stay together throughout the entire program in order to provide support, motivation, and encouragement. The focus of learning is upon the multi-cross-cultural aspects, both explicit and implicit, of the relationship between the psychotherapist and client or teacher and student; and how to use psychoanalytic and other current theory in a way that is relevant to multi-cross-cultural clinical practice. In this intensive and supportive environment, students may expect to complete the doctoral program in 3-4 years.

Nov. 10, 2012 SANVILLE COMMUNITY ALLIANCE MEETING
The Sanville Community Alliance sponsors socializing, networking, and continuing education programs in collaboration with the Smith College School for Social Work Los Angeles Alumni Group and Pacific Oaks Mar- riage and Family Therapy Programs (traditional, African-American and Latina/Latino Family Studies Speciali- zations).
On November 10, 2012 SCA sponsored a gathering at the home of Monica Blauner, LCSW, Alumnae Area Coordinator of Smith College School of Social Work. In addition to Monica, the organizers were Lynn Rosenfield, LCSW, Alex Kivowitz, PhD, and Alexis Selwood, PhD of The Sanville Institute, and Connie Destitio, LCSW, program director of the Pacific Oaks Latina/Latino and African- American Family Studies Programs.
The highlight of the gathering was a presentation by Gloria de la Cruz- Quiroz, LCSW, entitled: The Impact of Multigenerational Family History: Implications for Practice. Gloria is the program director of the Los Angeles Child Development Center’s school-based mental health program at Camino Nuevo Charter Academy in Los Angeles. The presentation was well- received and sparked an invigorating and enlightening discussion.It was a wonderful opportunity to socialize and network with a diverse group of students and therapists from different backgrounds: Euro- Americans, African-American, Latina/o-Americans, and Asian- Americans. The group included students, faculty, and alumni from The Sanville Institute, Smith College School of Social Work, and Pacific Oaks College.

The Sanville Community Alliance is the Los Angeles service arm of The Sanville Institute of Clinical Social Work and Psychotherapy. It provides both continuing education and psychotherapy.

MISSION
The mission of the Sanville Community Alliance is to create a community of mental health students, faculty and professional interested in cross-cultural issues, practice and education.
GOALS
The goals of Sanville Community Alliance are:
1) To provide BBS approved continuing mental health education in psychotherapy with an emphasis on cross-cultural issues and practice.
2) To provide psychotherapy for masters’ level students studying to become psychotherapists.
SANVILLE CONTINUING EDUCATION PROGRAM
The Sanville Community Alliance Continuing Educational Program provides a combination of networking, socializing and Clinical Continuing Education for students, faculty and alumni from the Sanville Institute, the Smith College of Social Work LA Alumni Association, Pacific Oaks, USC and other schools.
There are three presentations planned for 2012.
SANVILLE STUDENT PSYCHOTHERAPY PROGRAM
The Sanville Student Psychotherapy Program offers long and short term psychotherapy for master’s level students studying to become LCSW or MFT psychotherapists. Our psychotherapists are experienced clinicians who are interested in cultural and cross-cultural issues and take a relational, strength-based approach.
Clients are seen in therapists’ offices in Los Angeles, West Los Angeles, Pasadena and the San Fernando Valley.
Fees are based on the ability to pay. All psychotherapists volunteer their service and client fees go to the Sanville Institute Doctoral Scholarship fund.
